AUSTRIA

Austria provides a specific legislation on food contact materials, Lebensmittelgesetz (LMG) of 1975, that is similar to European Legislation currently active. Austria also implemented the EU Plastics Directive with various Ordinances (Kunststoffverordnung).
The first of these is Ordinance No. 775 of 23 September 1994 that forbids the selling of articles containing substances not approved by Austrian Legislation. Once a substance is "authorized" in Austria, it may be used by manufacturer, without any additional request or procedure, provided that such use complies with any specific conditions of use that may be prescribed.
